How to bulk upload to Whatnot UK

Bulk upload is the quickest way to load a Whatnot show: one CSV instead of adding listings one at a time. It's also strict. This guide covers the columns Whatnot UK expects, the exact values it accepts for clothing and trainers, and the mistakes that get rows rejected.

Key takeaways

  • —Whatnot UK's bulk upload takes a CSV with 21 columns, including up to eight image links.
  • —Category, subcategory, condition, shipping profile and hazmat must match Whatnot's own lists exactly, capital letters included.
  • —Shipping profiles are UK weight bands such as '250 to <500 grams', not parcel sizes.
  • —CSV upload is desktop only.

The 21 columns

Whatnot UK's quick-add template has these columns, in this order. Keep the header row exactly as written.

  • Category and Subcategory: from Whatnot's category list
  • Title and Description
  • Quantity: usually 1 for clothing
  • Type: the listing type, for example Auction
  • Price: the start price for an auction
  • Shipping Profile: a UK weight band
  • Offerable
  • Hazmat: Not Hazmat for clothing
  • Condition: from the list allowed for that subcategory
  • Cost Per Item and Sku: for your own records
  • Image URL 1 to Image URL 8: public links to your photos

Categories for clothing and trainers

Most UK clothing resellers only need three Whatnot categories. The subcategory must belong to the category you chose.

  • Men's Fashion: Men's Modern, Men's Vintage Clothing, Men's Formalwear, Sports Shirts, Other Men's Fashion
  • Women's Fashion: Women's Contemporary, Women's Activewear, Women's True Vintage, Y2K, Women's Shoes, Other Women's Fashion
  • Sneakers & Streetwear: Sneakers, Streetwear

Conditions: the capital-letter trap

Each subcategory has its own condition list, and the wording differs between them. This is the most common reason a row fails.

  • Clothing (including Streetwear): New With Tags, New without Tags, New with Defects, Pre-owned - Excellent, Pre-owned - Good, Pre-owned - Fair, Pre-owned - Damaged
  • Sneakers: New, New With Defects, Used, Not Specified
  • Note 'New with Defects' for clothing but 'New With Defects' for Sneakers, and that 'Used' is only valid for Sneakers

Shipping profiles are weight bands

Whatnot UK's shipping profiles are weight ranges, written exactly like '500 to <750 grams' or '1 KGs to <2 KGs'. A description such as 'medium parcel' or a bare number won't be accepted.

For clothing, the band mostly follows the garment: tees and shirts are lighter, hoodies and trousers sit in the middle, jackets and coats are heaviest. Our UK shipping profiles guide lists which garment goes where.

Why rows get rejected

  • A category or subcategory spelt differently from Whatnot's list, or a subcategory under the wrong category
  • A condition that isn't allowed for that subcategory
  • A shipping profile that isn't one of the UK bands
  • An empty title, or a price of zero
  • Image links that aren't publicly reachable, so listings arrive without photos

Uploading the file

Whatnot only accepts CSV uploads on desktop. Save the file as CSV (not Excel), open Whatnot on a computer and upload it through bulk upload. After it's in, you can still edit any listing inside Whatnot before the show.

Doing it without the spreadsheet

If your listings are numbered rather than named ('Medium #1' to '#30'), the free Whatnot CSV generator builds the file with the right shipping bands and conditions, no account needed.

If you want real listings from your own stock, including a Vinted wardrobe, ResellIQ builds the CSV from your inventory, maps every value to Whatnot UK's template and checks each row before you download it.
